Quarry Bay
Quarry Bay is an area beneath Mount Parker in Hong Kong's Eastern District. It's Chinese name is literally translated "Crucian Carp Stream or River".
It's where I found my first solo flat, and my seventh since I moved to Hong Kong in 2001.
![]() | It was a bay where quarried rocks from the hillside for construction or building roads were transported by ship. The river originally flowed into the bay, however it was shut off from the sea with the construction of the Tai Koo reservoir to supply fresh water to the Swire Shipyard, the Taikoo Sugar factory at Tong Chong Street, and later the Swire Coca-Cola factory at Greig Road/Yau Man Street. The upper course of the river was converted into a cement-paved catchwater, and the lower course is the present-day Quarry Bay Street, with the original estuary near the Quarry Bay Street - King's Road junction. |
I live conveniently in the area where various modes of transportation is accessible nearby. I can take buses 2A, 8 or 2 going to office (Causeway Bay), M722 to Central and Admiralty quickly (although waiting time is sometimes a drain); mini bus (I seldom take this), tram and Quarry Bay subway.
ParknShop, Jusco and Wellcome grocery shops are also nearby, while Tai Ping wet market and Quarry Bay Public Market is not so far away. Quarry Bay is also near Cityplaza mall.
