EXPERIENCES |
I have lots of unforgetable experiences during college days aside from the "men's restroom incident". Being sleepless because of those overnight projects. Worst was we're not just late for submission, our project didn't work right. Luckily we passed the subject because we have very good defense. One of the most unforgetable one was when we thought we wouldn't be a part of the graduation because we still have remaining subjects after the end of the last semester. Yet we were given a chance to finish those subject on that summer. The whole class was thankful and very grateful to Engr. Deypalubos for being supportive and helpful. Not just he made us all happy, He gave us hope and change our life in a way.Florrey Pedroso-White, United States
One thing that I always remember every time I think of our batch was those times when we all went to our study tour (Manila-Baguio-Tagaytay)..then all of the happenings that we all had on those days...remembering the campfire, then goes the drinking session, and all those funny moments on the bus.. makalingaw gyud to. And talking about school, I always think of those times when almost all of us joined in the cheering squad to represent the Engineering Dept. That is something worth remembering for. Bisan daghan yaga2x pero makalingaw..
That situation alone just proves to those ppol who are non engineering, that despite the pressure and the heavy loads that we carry on the course we have been to. We still have our time to enjoy and put a smile on our faces...We have shown to them that all things can be taken lightly...and no matter how rough and tough the times may come. We still can survive.. And that is what all of us (batch 97 graduates) have.. So my salute to all our batch mates, wherever they maybe right now or whatever they may be doing at this moment in our lives. I congratulate them for all of the accomplishments that they had through the years. and I thank you also, for keeping the flame of our batch burning..Joel Galang, Singapore
How time flies! Ten years ago, we graduated from our dearest alma mater, UIC. As I looked back, I can still vividly recall our teachers, the schoolworks, the endless nights spent on projects, the Intramurals, the parties, and countless things I can remember. However, on top of my list were my classmates and friends who have made my life in college colorful. I can't help but express my wish to see all of us being together again, even just for one day. Anyway, hope to hear a lot from you guys through our website.

The thing I could never forget ten years ago is that everyone is happy especially on graduation day. All of my batchmates has plans and goals. I myself had a dream of working abroad. I have this very strong conviction that somehow I would be working overseas, not because I hate working in the Philippines. It's just that I want to work overseas and settle back home someday when I have enough savings. Now most of the news I've learned from our bathcmates were those I've read from our sites. Except for those that I have contact with, like Bebs, Pamie, Mark and some others. As far as I know, everyone is successful in different ways. Most of them got married, others have great jobs and some migrated overseas. I am one of those happily married and have an Angel. Being a mother is a big change in my life.Florrey Pedroso-White, United States
Happy 10 years anniversary batchmates! Miss na nako mo tanan...

Congratulations to all of us. For I believe we are all successfull in our respective careers, whether in our respective works or in our respective families as parents to our respective children, whatever field we had chosen, it is where we are directed which means that it is what God wants us to be. Basta happy ta kung asa ta karon ug unsa ta karon, this measures how successful we are..Para sa tanan nga batch97, GO..GO..GO..hinaut unta nga dili ta mausab...especially kung magkita-kita na ta...

More than ten years ago, we do have our common experiences, or even ambitions in our studies. Focusing on how to survive the challenging subjects and trying to tame the demanding and dissatisfied teachers (promise to wash my mouth after this). Everything that we have done are efforts to surpass our ambitions (or at least the ambition of our parents), that is to put a period on our expenses/budgets... ay mali, mali... that is to graduate as the noted Computer Engineers. But I, myself, didn't come to realize of what I will become, what I am now. Or, have you tried to picture out yourself as a person being what you are right now?
During my elementary days, I promised not to be a teacher. It's because I notice that teachers do almost the same thing with what the pupils are doing. When I was in high school, I promised again not to be a teacher. Again, teachers do almost the same thing with what the students are doing. But where I was in past ten years, until now? 6 years in UIC? 4 years in USeP? (sige lang, naga softdev man pud ko...defense mechanism)
The best things in life, I guess, is to learn how to love the things that you have. I would like to congratulate everyone for having a successful life. They say, ten years of experience is enough to build a good foundation of life.

Hello Batch ' 97! We've achieved so much, we're really doing great guys!
Rowena Constantino, United States
I just want to thank all those who have helped me most especially sa mga projects for without them I don't know kung maka graduate ba ko.. ha ha ha… All the hardships we passed during our college years helped us a lot in facing the real world. It's been easy though obstacles are many. What is important is that we will always treasure where we came from and be proud for being part of our batch. May we reach another 10 years and many more 10 years to come.

I would like to congratulate everyone in Batch '97 for the 10th year anniversary. Replicting those university moments gives me a cheerful time. As i recall, people around me (batchmates and instructors) strengthened my values on how to deal my daily tasks, assignments, projects, teamworks, as well as, my motivation in achiving my
objectives and goals in life. I'm deeply honored and proud to be a member of batch 97.

I can say Batch '97 is well bond to each other. A batch in UIC Computer Eng'g that no other batch can surpass our legacy. Think of it, it's been ten years, ten years since we've been graduated but still communication and details of each of us are still online. No matter how far or near each of us, Batch 97 lives the spirit and the camaraderie. It's my gratitude and deepest sincere to whom who built the bridges to reminisce and share the whereabouts between us Batch 97, the staff and correspondents of this website, SPECIALLY to you Kumpareng Elmer Cagape, thanks.

Di na nako maelaborate (kung unsa ang pinaka memorable time) pero kanang naga himo ta ug projects kay mao ng time nga inspired ko kay mao man ng chance nga naga implement ta sa atong natun an either gitudlo sa atong teacher or ato lang gina experiment ang atong nabasahan sa libro. Unya pag nakit-an na nako nga nagawork or human na ang project, lipay na ko ana. until now, dali lang ko makahinumdum atong mga time nga nagahimo ko or kita ug projects.

OUR ADVICE TO THE YOUNGER ONES |
My advice to the younger batches is to take their studies seriously. Ask themselves if it's really what they want. Computer Engineering is one of the highest paid job here in the States. Very in demand and rewarding career. I wish I was (able to do what I did and) I could have done more. I am happy with my job though only it's way far from our field. I just wasted my 5 yrs taking Computer Engineering when my job is more on mangement and customer service. Yet I have no regrets because those 5 years are fun-filled years.I've met some great people in both my classmates and teachers. And I have had unforgettable moments during those years. I still am proud to be part of the 1997 batch.
Florrey Pedroso-White, United States
Advise nako sa mga younger batches, find out kung
asa gyud sila mag enjoy. Programming ba or systems administration.. Then didto sila magfocus nga iimprove
ang ilang skills.. Get certification exams after graduation or once na makakuha na ug work.. Pero aside
sa napili nga skills to improve, try gihapon nila iimprove or be knowlegeable enough sa ubang area..
halimbawa kung napili nimo ang programming, siguro either iimprove nimo ang skills nimo sa db
administration or os administration. Karon ra ba, pag nangapply ka ug work, prefer sa mga employer ang naay
skills besides sa main role nimo. other than technical skills, encourage gihapon nako sila nga iimprove ang
soft skills like proj management, negotiation skills, etc. kay sa kadugayan, mu-manage naman gyud sila ug
mga projects.Ronald Celestial, Singapore
